SPB Session: New Approaches for Upscaling International Climate Finance (HYBRID)

|
The aim of this session is discuss promising new mechanisms for upscaling financial contributions to global mitigation and for increasing effectiveness of spending. Focus will be on two concepts: tax coalitions, e.g. on taxing international aviation or maritime shipping, and jurisdictional reward funds, that reward governments rather than projects for proven emission reductions. We discuss existing examples for such approaches as well as proposals for setting up new mechanisms (e.g. Brazil’s Tropical Forest Forever Facility, launched at COP30; possibilities of rewarding countries for increasing domestic effective carbon prices). The session will also shed light on challenges, obstacles and potential solutions to enhance these approaches. | ||
