Workshop Overview\nMastering Passive Design with IESVE is an intensive half-day workshop that demonstrates how IESVE can be used to support passive design strategies from concept through early design.\nTopics include geometry creation, massing and shading studies, climate-responsive design, and solar analysis. Participants will also learn how parametric analysis can be used to compare design options and optimize building performance.

Workshop Overview\nThis half-day workshop teaches participants how to perform code-compliant 3D thermal bridge modeling.\nThe session combines code fundamentals with hands-on simulation using professional software tools.\nCode & Standards Overview\nWe begin with a review of current international thermal bridging codes, with a particular focus on U.S. standards.\nParticipants will explore:\n\nHow thermal bridge effects are expressed\nThe relationship between different performance metrics\nCode requirements relevant to U.S. compliance\n\nHands-On Modeling with SOLIDO\nParticipants will work directly with the Physibel SOLIDO software package to model common 3D thermal bridges.\nDuring this session, you will:\n\nImport provided geometries (STL format)\nCreate a computational mesh\nRun a thermal simulation\nInterpret simulation outputs\n\nCalculating Compliance Metrics\nUsing calculated heat flow results, participants will learn how to determine key derived properties, including:\n\nEquivalent thermal transmittance (U-value)\nLinear thermal transmittance (ψ-value)\nPoint thermal transmittance (χ-value)\n\nThese calculations will be used to generate a report compliant with U.S. standards.

Advance registration required. HERC’s Tour Information Packet includes directions to the HERC facility along with the Visitor Agreement. Each participant needs to bring a signed copy of the Visitor Agreement with them and wear appropriate attire. Please give yourself an extra 10 minutes of travel time as it can be confusing finding the entrance of the facility.

Take a guided tour of the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC) in downtown Minneapolis and see how municipal solid waste is converted into usable energy. The tour will showcase HERC’s essential role in the regional system, highlighting how it contributes to resource recovery, diverts waste from landfills, and provides dependable energy, underscoring its commitment to environmental stewardship and energy independence.\nThis optional add-on provides an inside look at the facility’s operations, environmental controls, and role in the region’s integrated waste and energy system. The tour emphasizes the facility’s advanced environmental control systems to minimize air emissions. HERC is a 30-minute walk or a 9-minute cab ride from the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis.

Join us for a guided tour of T3 Minneapolis, the largest mass-timber building in the US when it opened in 2016. The name stands for Timber, Transit, and Technology. At seven stories and 180,000 square feet, the LEED Gold office building showcases innovative design and construction practices, including nail-laminated timber, eco-friendly materials, and biophilic design. This tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at the building’s energy-efficient systems, amenities, and unique construction.\nThis add-on experience will be a comprehensive exploration of the high-performance, sustainable design principles that have earned this facility national recognition. The building serves as a live demonstration of exemplary green architecture and the implementation of a truly sustainable workplace model. T3 is a 30-minute walk or a 10-minute cab ride from the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis.
