Pitch Me Your Business

Suyash Shrikant Vidwans

Newcomb & Boyd, Atlanta

Pitch me your business is an interesting game to test the technical skills and entrepreneurial spirit of the conference attendees. This is a competition game with multiple teams, each team comprising 4-8 participants. For this game, team members have fixed time to come up with a basic business pitch for an enterprise and present to an investor. The Simbuild participants will be pitching their skillset to an architect / owner.

Problem statement: A new project is coming up in town and the owner themselves or the contracted design architect is looking to hire a design team. Business Development Manager/ Head of Building Performance team is trying to pitch their business proposition to an architect / owner. The owner / architect is aware of sustainability and building performance services but does not have detailed know-how of the offerings. (This situation is added so that presentations and ideas do not get too complex and filled with jargon. Emerging professionals in the participating teams should feel comfortable to contribute). For the project itself, teams can choose the building size, climate zone of the location and building type (for example 100,000 sq.ft office building in CZ 4A). It would be preferable for the organizer not to provide a project type as it may offer an unfair advantage to team members having experience in the particular sector and/or climate.

Teams get time to prepare an oral presentation. Participants are encouraged to use drawings / graphs / images to support the oral presentation. Teams pick one participant to present to the audience and judges.

Each team will be scored on 100 points. The distribution of points is as follows:

1. Services offered: Unique services offered pertinent to building type, size and climate zone. Insights into regional design practices and challenges will be tested. (35points)

2. Presentation quality: Presenter communication skills, drawings/ data used (35 points)

3. Marketing strategy: For example offering three options: basic, mid-tier and advanced, each with increasing price point. (20 points)

4. Number of services: Extent of services offered (10points)
