Joint progresses in optical wave fronts shaping, laser development and opsins design are bringing optogenetics in a new phase, “circuits optogenetics” where neural circuits can be optically interrogated and controlled with millisecond precision and single-cell resolution. Here, I will review these progresses and show few examples of optical brain manipulation on different experimental paradigms.
