Loving Our Country: A Listening and Documentation project SUNY Plattsburgh, United States of America John Brown Lives! (JBL!) is a non-profit freedom and human rights organization based in Lake Placid, New York, that uses arts, education, advocacy and activism to engage the public to excavate the legacies of the past to inspire community and civic action that addresses social issues in the present. I, and three other students in the Anthropology department at SUNY Plattsburgh have been collaborating with the organization since last Fall on a project called Loving Our Country: A Listening and Documentation project. We have been the interviewers/listeners, asking community members the question: "Are you affected by what is going on in Washington D.C.?" This is the first of four key questions. One of the goals of the project is to listen closely to and document participants' thoughts and feelings about what has been going on in our country since January 2025 to make this data available to the public, including political officials and candidates. This is a continually evolving project that we have been instrumental in designing-as-we-go. In this interactive session, I’ll share some details about the project and our data, and I’ll conduct a Listening Session with whomever would like to participate. | ||
