Integrating Sustainability and Technological Innovation in Industrial Chemical Processes 1Universidad Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnología, Costa Rica; 2Universidad Estatal de Milagro, Guayaquil, EC This research explores the integration of sustainability and technological innovation in industrial chemical processes through digitalization and the Internet of Things (IoT). It examines how these advancements enhance productivity and reduce environmental impact. The primary objectives are to assess the challenges faced by the chemical industry in resource utilization and waste generation, and to identify how innovation and technology can provide effective solutions. Adopting a qualitative approach, the study links research questions with relevant theories and outcomes. The methodological design combines systems theory and process analysis, focusing on the impact of IoT on sustainability and efficiency. Data collection is carried out through interviews and case studies, complemented by real-time process reviews, which facilitate the interpretation of the interaction between technology and sustainable practices. The findings indicate that the implementation of sustainable practices and IoT technology significantly improves efficiency and reduces costs, as evidenced by the employed methodology and analyzed case studies. This approach demonstrates the critical importance of qualitative research in understanding sustainability in the chemical industry. The study highlights the necessity of aligning research questions with coherent methodologies to achieve meaningful results. Ultimately, this research underscores the need for a robust methodological framework to comprehend and promote the integration of sustainability and technological innovation, emphasizing its value for a more sustainable and technologically advanced future in the chemical industry. 1:26pm - 1:34pm
Impact on waste reduction when applying Lean Manufacturing tools in SMEs: Systematic Literature Review. Universidad Tecnológica del Perú S.A.C. - (PE), Perú The review of the articles found focuses on the application of Lean Manufacturing tools aimed at continuous improvement and applied in order to minimize waste in the production process of companies, seeking to generate value for the product and the organization; since companies face different problems by not having an installed capacity adequate to what is established; such as poor infrastructure planning, poor distribution and untrained personnel, this causes waste to be generated in any company such as; overproduction, waiting times, inventory, movement, transportation, defect and over processing, which tends to result in the deficiency of its production process, low product quality and additional production cost. Our objective with this research, based on a systematic review of the literature, seeks to analyze small and medium-sized companies in the industrial sector that apply the Lean Manufacturing methodology and what impact its application had on waste reduction and process improvement. It is therefore evident that the use of Lean tools such as 5S, Kanban, VSM, Poke yoke, TPM, Kaisen and JIT reduce waste in a range of 9.6% to 97.71% improvement. For this reason, an RSL was proposed to understand how Lean Manufacturing practices can increase operational efficiency and minimize waste 1:34pm - 1:42pm
Industry and Artificial Intelligence Innovative Challenges for University Academic Management 1Universidad Bolivariana de Ecuador, Ecuador; 2Instituto Superior Universitario Tecnológico Bolivariano, Ecuador; 3Universidad Latinoamericana y del Caribe, Venezuela The educational process required in the 21st century must be innovative, seeking to create solutions for a sustainable future. Therefore, terms common in the business sector, such as quality management and quality of management, are employed to enhance human development. For this reason, the present research aims to provide innovative theoretical perspectives that guide university academic management, where the teaching and learning processes of students can be aligned with the industry-AI relationship. All of this is in response to the innovative challenges posed by industry and artificial intelligence to universities. The academic route begins with the paradigmatic stance within a qualitative research approach rooted in the interpretative phenomenological type. Three higher education institutions from two Latin American countries were deliberately selected: ITB, UBE, and ULAC. Intentionally chosen students, teachers, and graduates, who are involved with the aforementioned institutions, served as key informants. In-depth interviews were conducted with the support of a semi-structured guide to gather the required information. The concept of credibility was maintained during the screening process. The hermeneutic-dialectical method proposed by Martínez (2015) was applied for the analysis and construction of the theory. Each step of the method yielded valuable information regarding the academic realm of the institution. 1:42pm - 1:50pm
Environmental impact in relation to the use of solid waste in the construction and mining sectors in the years 2019-2024 Universidad Tecnologica de Perú - (PE), Perú The use of solid waste in the construction and mining industries is a crucial practice to promote sustainability and reduce environmental impact. In the construction sector, recycling materials such as concrete, asphalt, wood and metals not only minimizes the volume of waste reaching landfills, but also reduces the need to extract and process new resources. Likewise, in mining, the reuse of materials and the recycling of precious metals and other minerals contribute to a more circular economy, reducing dependence on the extraction of natural resources and reducing the carbon emissions associated with these processes. The implementation of advanced technologies and the adoption of strict environmental policies are essential to optimize waste management in these sectors |
