La baja representación de las mujeres en carreras STEM (Ciencias, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas, por sus siglas en inglés) representa un desafío persistente a nivel mundial. Factores como estereotipos de género, barreras culturales y sociales, falta de apoyo y mentoría, así como políticas institucionales excluyentes, contribuyen a esta situación. En este documento se busca inicialmente enmarcar o contextualizar la situación a través de una revisión de literatura, en la que se aprovecha para describir estrategias dirigidas a reducir la brecha de género. Luego y a partir de un análisis descriptivo de los datos aportados por la Institución Universitaria Politécnico Grancolombiano se mencionan las iniciativas que la institución ha asumido para aportar en esta problemática.

La investigación formativa en el contexto de la educación en ingeniería para mujeres se centra en el diseño y la evaluación de estrategias educativas que fomenten la participación y el éxito de mujeres en campos tradicionalmente dominados por hombres. Este enfoque busca identificar y abordar las barreras y desafíos específicos que enfrentan las mujeres en la ingeniería, así como desarrollar prácticas pedagógicas y programas de apoyo que promuevan un entorno inclusivo y equitativo. La investigación formativa explora diversos escenarios de formación, incluyendo currículos adaptados, mentorías, y redes de apoyo que pueden influir positivamente en la experiencia educativa de las mujeres. A través de estudios de caso y análisis cualitativos, se han identificado factores críticos como la baja participación de las mujeres, la percepción de una cultura de género excluyente, y la necesidad de modelos a seguir que puedan inspirar y motivar a las estudiantes. En conclusión, la investigación formativa proporciona un marco valioso para la creación de escenarios educativos que apoyen de manera efectiva a las mujeres en ingeniería. Al abordar las necesidades específicas y superar los desafíos existentes, se puede contribuir a un entorno más equitativo y a una mayor representación femenina en el campo de la ingeniería.

This paper is part of a broader research work developed by teachers of the subject Engineering and Society conducted during the years 2022 and 2023 with the aim of promoting spaces for reflection through classroom activities related to gender perspective training in the field of Engineering in alignment with the 2030 Agenda. From the human and social sciences approach, specific theoretical frameworks are integrated with the prior knowledge that students bring to the teaching-learning process, facilitating the development of critical views on the reality of SDG 5 in the progress of the 2030 Agenda. The structure of the document first outlines the most relevant methodological aspects and describes some moments of the classroom space setting as instances of the process of research, reflection, conceptual reformulation, and personal deconstruction. Finally, the results of this project allow us to infer that there are gender issues that, as international organizations point out, remain unresolved and require attention in the context of university education.

Women have historically been underrepresented in engineering and face additional barriers in the entrepreneurial field due to gender stereotypes. This article focuses on comparing the performance of students in the institutional seal course at the Bolívar Technological University, called creativity and entrepreneurship, with a particular focus on gender disparities, taking the engineering faculty as a reference. Furthermore, this analysis is crucial to understand how education and its modalities, in-person and remote, have influenced academic performance. Preliminary results indicate that women in engineering obtained better grades than their male peers, and that academic performance was superior to that of women from other faculties, and even more so in remote mode. This suggests that, despite the challenges, distance education was able to provide a favorable learning environment for women in engineering.

The study concludes that it is essential to promote educational policies that promote gender equity, especially in courses in the engineering entrepreneurship line, to create a more inclusive and equitable academic environment. Additionally, it is recommended that UTB conduct regular evaluations of these programs to ensure their effectiveness in promoting gender equality and the academic success of female STEAM career students.
