Scientific output of universities in southern Peru: a Scopus-based bibliometric study (2019–2023) 1Vicerrectorado de Investigación, Universidad Católica de Santa María, Arequipa, Perú; 2Departamento de Matemática y Estadística, Universidad Católica San Pablo, Arequipa, Perú; 3Facultad de Ciencias e Ingenierías Físicas y Formales, Universidad Católica de Santa María, Arequipa, Perú This study analyzes research trends in licensed universities of the Southern Macro-Region of Peru between 2019 and 2023, based on Scopus data processed through SciVal. In light of persistent regional gaps in scientific visibility and performance, a bibliometric analysis was conducted on 14 institutions, considering the number of publications and the Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) across 27 subject areas. The results show sustained growth in scientific output, although with marked differences between universities and disciplines. Some institutions stand out in fields such as Health Professions and Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology, while others show low impact in strategic areas like Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Business. These findings highlight the need for differentiated research-strengthening policies. It is recommended to develop bibliometric analysis units to improve the quality, relevance, and visibility of regional scientific production. 2:28pm - 2:36pm

Telework, job satisfaction and quality of life in university sustainability 1Universidad Nacional Pedro Ruiz Gallo - (PE); 2Universidad César Vallejo - (PE); 3Universidad Nacional de Trujillo - (PE) Abstract– Purpose: This study analyzes the relationships between telework, job satisfaction, and quality of life among staff at a Peruvian public university, from an organizational sustainability perspective. A quantitative, descriptive-analytical, non-experimental cross-sectional design was employed with a sample of 193 administrative workers. Scales measuring telework (17 items), job satisfaction (8 items), and quality of work life (14 items) were administered. Results reveal positive and statistically significant correlations among the three variables: telework and job satisfaction (ρ = 0.384, p < .001) with moderate effect size, and telework and quality of life (ρ = 0.205, p < .01) with small effect size. Working conditions associated with remote work constituted the factor most consistently linked to well-being indicators. Generalized dissatisfaction with remuneration aspects was identified, regardless of work modality. It is concluded that telework, when implemented with labor rights guarantees and adequate institutional resources, is compatible with favorable indicators of university human capital well-being. These findings provide contextualized empirical evidence to inform institutional management decisions oriented toward sustainable human resource management in digitalized work environments. 2:44pm - 2:52pm
The association between mathematics-related academic programs and research performance in Peruvian universities (2019–2024) 1Vicerrectorado de Investigación, Universidad Católica de Santa María, Arequipa, Perú; 2Facultad de Ciencias e Ingenierías Físicas y Formales, Universidad Católica de Santa María, Arequipa, Perú; 3Escuela Profesional de Comunicación Social, Universidad Católica de Santa María, Arequipa, Perú This study examines research output in mathematics across licensed Peruvian universities using a bibliometric approach based on Scopus and SciVal data for the period 2019–2024. The objective was to analyze institutional differences in research productivity and citation impact, with particular emphasis on the presence of formal mathematics-related academic programs. Four bibliometric indicators were considered: scholarly output, total citations, citations per publication, and field-weighted citation impact. The analysis included 80 universities with measurable production in the mathematics subject area, and non-parametric statistical methods were applied due to the highly skewed distribution of the indicators. The results show a strong concentration of scholarly output in a limited number of institutions. Statistically significant differences in productivity were identified between universities with and without academic programs in mathematics and statistics, indicating that the existence of specialized programs is associated with higher research output. In contrast, no significant differences were observed for citation-based indicators, suggesting that increased productivity does not necessarily translate into greater citation impact. These findings underscore the role of institutional organization in shaping mathematical research productivity and highlight the need for contextualized interpretation of bibliometric indicators. 2:52pm - 3:00pm
ABP proposal to consolidate proportionality in engineering education: Experience in the construction of access ramps 1Universidad Tecnológica del Perú UTP - (PE); 2Universidad Privada del Norte - (PE), Perú; 3Tecsup (Instituto De Educación Superior) - (PE); 4Universidad Nacional del Callao - (PE); 5Universidad Nacional de Educación Enrique Guzmán y Valle - (PE) Difficulties in learning mathematics are a topic discussed in many forums and the subject of much research. This problem, present at all educational levels, is also present in university life. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to propose an activity based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) that allows students not only to use their prior knowledge to solve a challenging problem but also to be highly motivating for them. The participants in this activity were first-year university students enrolled in a mathematics preparatory course for engineering. As a result of the experience, it was observed that the students were able to infer and use different basic mathematical concepts, such as proportion and the Pythagorean theorem, and, above all, they became aware of the need for accessible spaces for people with reduced mobility. 3:00pm - 3:08pm
Student Retention Measures in Engineering Programs at a Higher Education Institution Post COVID-19 Universidad Politécnica Salesiana UPS, Ecuador Student retention in universities is a process through which students remain enrolled and continue their studies until they graduate. This article exposes the strategies used by the Higher Education Institution of Guayaquil city, in the Industrial Engineering program, to recover the number of dropout students after the Covid 19 pandemic and subsequent inconveniences. It is worth mentioning that in 2020 there were 999 students in the university program. To prevent the closure of the program, starting in 2020, the Industrial Engineering program implemented strategies in the student retention process which are still in place today. At the beginning of the process, the measures recommended by the national government were followed. Later, academic counceling created was introduced and control measures were maintained for students repeating courses for the second and third time to prevent them from abandoning their studies before completing their graduation, as industrial engineers. Despite the significant impact that the pandemic and other problems had on the retention of students in the program, there are currently 493 students. The measures adopted made it possible to keep it sustainable over time, both for the students and for the labor market. | ||
