Governance and Strategic Integration of Quality Assurance in Southern Chilean State Universities 1: Universidad de Los Lagos, Chile; 2: Universidad de La Frontera, Chile Universities face increasing regulatory pressures and demands that require the strengthening of their internal quality assurance and management systems. This study comparatively analyzes the organizational structure, strategic orientation, and formal operational mechanisms of internal quality systems in state universities in southern Chile. The research was conducted through a documentary analysis of official instruments, including strategic plans and evaluation mechanisms of five institutions. The results show that universities have consolidated formal organizational structures characterized by centralized governance intended to coordinate accreditation processes. While quality assurance is progressively integrated into strategic planning, evidence of institutional isomorphism is observed, where structures homogenize in response to regulatory frameworks. Although progress exists in evaluation mechanisms, gaps persist in the depth of 'quality culture' adoption. This study contributes to higher education management by providing comparative evidence on the institutional architecture and regulatory adaptation of regional public universities. | |
