Obtaining second-generation bioethanol from orange peel using a biorefinery concept Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria, Perú Currently, orange peel waste (Citrus sinensis) generated in juice shop, restaurants, markets, and other industries is a renewable raw material due to its cellulose content (37%) for the production of second-generation bioethanol. The process to optimize the conversion of orange peel cellulose to bioethanol will involve the following steps: physical pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis to obtain glucose containing sugars, fermentation of the syrup with Saccharomyces cerevisiae, distillation, and subsequent dehydration. The variables studied will include temperature, pH, reaction time, and solvent ratio to increase yield and optimize each step. Optimal conditions for cellulase enzyme dosage levels were obtained for the production of bioethanol from orange peels in hydrolysis. The treatment of 50 grams of orange peel with 400 mL of water and 10 mL of cellulase enzyme at 55 ° C for 1 hour, an increase in sugar content from 3 brix to 5.9 brix. After fermentation with Saccharomyces Cerevisiae from 5.9 brix it was reduced to 4 brix. | |
