Digital Competence and Autonomous Learning in Higher Education Students

The study aimed to analyze the relationship between digital competencies and autonomous learning in higher education students, considering both the overall level of digital competencies and the behavior of their specific dimensions. A quantitative approach was employed, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlational design. The sample consisted of 96 university students selected thru non-probability convenience sampling. Data collection was conducted using validated questionnaires that assessed digital competencies and autonomous learning, exhibiting adequate levels of internal consistency. For the inferential analysis, Spearman’s rho coefficient was used. The results revealed a positive and statistically significant relationship between digital competencies and autonomous learning, as well as differentiated associations among their dimensions, highlighting information access and use and creativity and innovation as the components most closely related to autonomy in learning. It is concluded that the comprehensive strengthening of digital competencies constitutes a key factor in promoting autonomous learning processes in higher education.
