Biogas Production for a Pig Farm Heater through Optimized Codigestion of Manure and Household Waste Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas - (PE), Perú The inadequate management of household waste and pig manure in the Chutana area of the San Bartolo district generates environmental impacts that affect local residents and pig farms. This study aims to estimate biogas production from pig manure and household waste for heating purposes in a pig farm. The characterization of household organic waste represents 52% of the total, while the farm generates 386.15 of manure. In terms of chemical composition, manure presented a pH of 7.23 and a C/N ratio of 10.56, whereas household waste showed a pH of 5.03 and a C/N ratio of 26.64. Using response surface analysis, biogas production from three mixtures (20:80, 50:50, and 80:20) determined that the optimal proportion was 43:57, reaching an average value of 1800 mL after 12 days. By scaling up production using the total daily available waste, a biogas yield of 3.55 can be obtained, which, when used as fuel for a heater, will generate 27.70 , thereby supplying the thermal deficit of the pig farm. | |
