Salutogenic design guidelines for space appropriation in older adults Universidad Tecnológica del Perú UTP - (PE), Perú Salutogenic Design, as an architectural approach oriented toward well-being, proposes guidelines that strengthen autonomy and emotional connection with the environment. In the geriatric context, these dimensions are essential for older adults' appropriation of spaces. This study analyzed this relationship at the Hogar de la Paz, located in Nuevo Chimbote, Áncash, Peru, using a correlational approach and mixed methods that included international case studies, observation sheets, and interviews. The results confirmed a significant relationship (r = 0.839; p < 0.05) between salutogenic design and spatial appropriation, validating that environment designed with criteria of flexibility, sensory comfort, and the presence of nature directly impact the perception of belonging, security, and control. However, limitations were identified, highlighting the need to comprehensively apply salutogenic guidelines in future geriatric architecture projects in Peru. The result of this research is to demonstrate the importance of incorporating design strategies that not only fulfill a technical function, but can also become agents of health and well-being, integrating salutogenic criteria to enhance the appropriation of space and consolidate a more inclusive and humane infrastructure model | |
