Energy projects in isolated communities: How to develop an alternative for Garifuna ethnic groups in Honduras? Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana - UNITEC - (HN), Honduras Will be studied weaknesses that express the inequity in the benefits pursued in the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 7, which aims to guarantee access to clean and affordable energy, key to the development of communications, in addition to the objective 10, in order to reduce inequality that threatens the social and economic development of neglected communities. We will see that the socialization of energy projects in the Garifuna communities of Honduras presents serious challenges due to the lack of implementation of a process of prior, free and informed consultation, in accordance with the International labor organization (OIT) Convention 169, about indigenous and tribal peoples in independent countries, where the communities have been systematically excluded from decision making. The objective will be to find those obstacles that impact equitable insertion in the development of projects, such as the lack of political representation, distrust in consultation mechanisms, and general ignorance about the rights guaranteed by the Convention. Although some community members (32%) view energy projects with optimism, the majority perceive them with skepticism due to the lack of economic benefits, environmental impact, and violation of cultural and territorial rights. To overcome these challenges, it is essential to develop processes that guarantee prior, free and informed consultation, respecting the rights and forms of organization of the communities, recognizing the dignity of indigenous peoples and the cultural pluralism and solidarity of society, for decision-making. 9:48am - 9:56am
Analysis of the Impact of Poverty on Economic Growth: A Panel Study for El Salvador, Honduras, and Costa Rica (2000-2020) Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana - UNITEC - (HN), Honduras This study analyzes the relationship between poverty and economic growth in Honduras, El Salvador, and Costa Rica during the period 2000-2023, using panel data methodology and STATA software for econometric analysis. The main objective is to analyze how the poverty variable might affect the economic growth of these three countries. The analysis through panel data allows for controlling unobservable heterogeneities between countries and over time. The results reveal that both poverty and inflation are significant variables that negatively affect economic growth in the three countries. Although extreme poverty does not show a statistically significant effect in the short term, it is suggested to monitor it closely due to its potential long-term effects on economic performance. Furthermore, the study highlights that inflation has a substantial negative impact on economic growth, indicating the need for policies that not only address poverty but also control inflation. The results point out that managing macroeconomic conditions, especially price stability and social improvements, is essential for fostering stable and sustainable economic growth. This study underscores the importance of integrated policies aimed at reducing poverty and controlling inflation to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Central America.Economic growth 9:56am - 10:04am
Process Improvement to Increase Customer Satisfaction in a Company Universidad Cesar Vallejo The research focuses on improving customer service processes in a service company, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 9 (Target 9.1) and 16 (Target 16.7), with the aim of enhancing user satisfaction. The specific objectives included evaluating the current service processes, calculating initial user satisfaction levels, implementing process improvements through staff training and the creation of an initial filtering system to direct users to the appropriate procedure, and measuring satisfaction after the intervention. A quantitative study was conducted with a sample of 374 surveys from a total population of 12,106 users. The results identified prolonged waiting times and ineffective problem resolution as the main causes of dissatisfaction. Using tools such as the FMEA matrix, improvements were prioritized and applied, leading to increased user satisfaction. The conclusion highlights that the implemented process enhancements effectively reduced waiting times and optimized problem resolution, thereby strengthening the customer experience and trust in the company’s services 10:04am - 10:12am
Implementation of a socio-environmental impact matrix for the adequate analysis of mining conflicts in Cajamarca – Peru 1Universidad Privada del Norte - (PE); 2Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos - (PE) Socio-environmental conflicts were closely related to Minera Yanacocha, one of the most important mining companies in Cajamarca, Peru. This company was involved in conflicts with local communities and the government, raising concerns about the environmental and social impacts of its mining operations. Therefore, the need to address these conflicts in detail was reflected in the purpose of this research, which aimed to develop a socio-environmental impact matrix to analyze mining conflicts in the region. The study was carried out with the objective of implementing this matrix for the proper analysis of socio-environmental mining conflicts in Cajamarca. The type of research was applied, with a descriptive-correlational level, and a non-experimental cross-sectional design was used. For the sample size, a non-random intentional sampling of a mining project was conducted, including 46 residents from the directly affected area. The data collection instrument was an online questionnaire based on the Likert Scale. With a p-value of 0.480, there was statistical evidence to accept the alternative hypothesis, finding a moderate correlation through Pearson's correlation coefficient. Therefore, the implementation of the socio-environmental impact matrix was appropriate and accurate for the analysis of socio-environmental mining conflicts in Cajamarca. In conclusion, this tool was essential for systematically identifying conflicts, assessing risks, promoting public participation, guiding the planning of mitigation measures, and facilitating the continuous monitoring of impacts. 10:12am - 10:20am
