Improving Academic Performance through Pedagogical Strategies: Case Study of General Chemistry in the First Semester of University

JESSICA MONTENEGRO VILLARREAL, EDGAR HARO, MARIA JOSÉ VALLEJO, ANTONIO PROAÑO

Escuela Politécnica Nacional - (EC), Ecuador

The study analyzes the implementation of Open Educational Resources (OER) and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the teaching of General Chemistry at the National Polytechnic School (EPN) and its impact on the academic performance of first-semester engineering students. The research follows a quantitative and quasi-experimental approach, comparing control groups and two intervention groups (I1 and I2) over four academic periods (2022B - 2024A).

The results show an increase in the passing rate in the intervention groups, reaching up to 83% in 2024A, in contrast to the control group which started with only 25.5% in 2022B. However, despite this improvement, final grades did not increase proportionally. Statistical analyses, including chi-square and ANOVA tests, reveal significant differences in some periods, especially in group I2.

Several key factors were identified: the incorporation of virtual laboratories, interactive simulations and bi-monthly projects facilitated learning, but their impact focused on reducing failure rather than improving overall performance. The adaptation of the control group to intervention strategies in the last academic periods also leveled the differences.

The study concludes that the use of OER and ICT is effective in increasing the pass rate, but new pedagogical strategies are required to improve overall grades and not just avoid failure.

Currently, the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) plays an essential role in achieving meaningful learning that aligns with social dynamics. Therefore, the role of the teacher as a mediator and guide in the use of these tools is crucial. The objective of this research was to determine the effect of the GeoGebra digital resource on improving the learning of numerical sets among students at the Autonomous University of Peru. This digital tool is a technology widely used by experts in mathematics, as it facilitates the visualization of cases applied to numerical sets. Methodologically, the study was conducted under a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, involving a population of 235 second-cycle students enrolled in the Mathematical Information Management course during the 2023-II academic term. The sample was selected through non-equivalent sampling and consisted of 120 students, with 60 in the control group and 60 in the experimental group. The instrument used for data collection was a test composed of 10 items to evaluate the learning of numerical sets. The results reveal the significant changes that the GeoGebra tool produced in learning this topic. Its impact was found to be positive, as its use led to an observed increase in students’ understanding and retention of key mathematical concepts. It is concluded that this resource not only facilitates the understanding of numerical sets but also enriches the mathematical learning process overall.

This work addresses the existence and continuity of global attractors for wave equations in Riemannian manifolds, considering
the effect of localized damping. Wave equations with localized dissipation represent a relevant model in physical problems, such as wave
propagation in media with partial dampers. We have the following questions: Are there exponential global attractors for this type of systems?
Is it possible to ensure the continuity of these attractors in the face of external disturbances in the system? The methodology of functional
analysis techniques and semigroup theory was used and the existence of a global attractor compact global attractor A in the Hilbert space H.
The system, due to the energy dissipation generated by localized damping, meets the necessary conditions of compactness and invariance.
It is verified that the energy of the system decreases exponentially:
As a result, the trajectories of the system converge asymptotically towards A
It is shown that the global attractor Aε associated with a system perturbed by a small variation ε in which the damping coefficient aε(x)
converges to the original attractor A.
The Hausdorff metric dH between Aε and A satisfies:
dH(Aε,A) → 0 cuando ε → 0.

Effects of resistive aging on the operational dynamics of supercapacitors in fast-charging systems

Andrés Guiseppe Jirón Vicente, Jeremy Bryant Gonzales Samame, Steven Smith Palacio Ortega, Angel Eduardo Obispo Vasquez

Universidad Tecnológica del Perú UTP - (PE), Perú

This article analyzes the impact of resistive aging on the operational dynamics of a fast-charging system composed of supercapacitor banks, using the equivalent circuit method. The effects of resistive aging in the charging station are modeled through a time-dependent exponential function, controlled by a positive parameter. The results indicate that an increase in internal resistance reduces the maximum current and the duration of the charging process, affecting the energy transfer within the system. Furthermore, the rise in internal resistance leads to greater voltage dispersion, compromising the system's energy efficiency. The analysis of dissipated energy confirms that the aging of internal resistance increases energy losses, reducing overall efficiency.

The present study aims to analyze the ultraviolet index in the city of Puno by applying an empirical model, in order to evaluate its variability and behavior over time. To do this, global solar radiation and ultraviolet index data corresponding to the period 2016-2018 were examined. The study was carried out at the Universidad Nacional del Altiplano - Puno, located in the city of Puno. For the analysis, measurements obtained from the DAVIS Vantage PRO 2.0 Plus meteorological station were used, considering the variables of global solar radiation and ultraviolet index. The statistical processing included the calculation of the mean absolute error, as well as the coefficients of determination and correlation between the measured values and those estimated by the model. The results indicate that the proposed model for estimating the ultraviolet index in clear skies presents a high degree of fit with the observed data, reaching an approximate correlation of 0.988. Furthermore, the model developed for cloudy conditions shows a significant correspondence with the measurements, with a correlation of 0.984 during the study period. These findings support the reliability of the proposed models for estimating the ultraviolet index under different atmospheric conditions.

The objective of this study is to analyze Analysis of temperature, atmospheric pressure, relative humidity, global solar irradiation and ultraviolet index. For this purpose, atmospheric data corresponding to the years 2023 and 2024 were examined. The study site was the National University of Altiplano, located in the city of Puno. For the analysis of the data, measurements obtained from the DAVIS Vantage PRO 2.0 Plus meteorological station were used, which covered variables such as temperature, atmospheric pressure, relative humidity, global solar irradiation and ultraviolet index. Regarding the statistical analysis, the mean absolute error and the correlation coefficient were applied between the measured data and those estimated by the polynomial model adjusted by nonlinear regression. The results indicate that the best-fitting model is a third-degree polynomial, with the following correlations: 0.983 for global solar irradiation, 0.997 for UVI, 0.995 for temperature, 0.993 for relative humidity, and 0.998 for pressure, highlighting a strong relationship between meteorological variables and global solar irradiation.
