Improving Efficiency: Internet of Things (IoT) and Automation to Optimize Poultry Production Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas - (PE), Peru The manufacturing industry plays a key role in global agri-food production, driven by sustained demand in several regions, especially in Latin America and Europe. Despite its importance, the industry faces critical operational challenges that impact efficiency, including high levels of input waste and extended cycle times in processes such as filling, sealing, and product sorting. This study presents a proposed improvement using an automated system that integrates Internet of Things (IoT) and Arduino technology to improve productivity in poultry feed production. This IoT-enabled approach reduces raw material waste by 15% and shortens cycle times by 18%, significantly increasing production efficiency. In addition, the use of distance sensors and Arduino-controlled pistons enables accurate sorting of containers by size, reducing sorting errors by 20% and improving operational consistency. The findings highlight that integrating automation and IoT into these processes not only optimizes the production flow, but also enables the poultry industry to meet growing market demands in a more sustainable way. Furthermore, this study demonstrates the adaptability of such an automated system to various production environments, making it a replicable model for improving efficiency in different industries. By leveraging advanced technology, companies in the manufacturing sector can improve their competitive advantage, reduce reliance on manual labor, and move toward a more sustainable and resource-efficient operating model. Improvement Proposal to Reduce Defects in PET Bottle Blowing Using Lean Six Sigma: Case Study Universidad Privada del Norte - (PE), Perú This study has a pre-experimental design, in which the application of the Lean Six Sigma methodology is proposed for the production process of 2.5L PET bottles in a mineral water and ice company. Through the DMAIC approach, it was identified that the most frequent defects arise in the preform blowing process, representing 55% of the total defects. Various tools were used to analyze the information, such as the SIPOC diagram to map the overall process, the VSM to visualize the production process and potential improvements, the Pareto diagram to identify the priority aspects to address, and the Ishikawa diagram and 5 Whys to analyze the root cause. It was determined that the lack of temperature and humidity control in preform storage is the main cause. As a proposal, it is recommended to install an environmental control system with dehumidifiers and climate control, as well as the implementation of an intelligent temperature control system to improve process efficiency. These actions are estimated to reduce blowing defects by 50%, significantly improving the sigma level from 4.13 to 4.35, and increasing the yield from 99.57% to 99.79%. Application of Lean Methodologies in the Manufacturing Technology Laboratory at Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar - (CO), Colombia, Colombia The purpose of this project is the implementation of Lean Manufacturing tools in the Manufacturing Technology Laboratory at the Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar to improve order, safety, and space efficiency. The tools to be implemented include VSM, 5S, Kanban, Visual Management, TPM, and SMED, which will address issues such as disorganization, accumulation of unnecessary equipment, safety risks, and inadequate signage. 11:24am - 11:32am
Time study and interrogation techniques to enhance production in a textile company Universidad Privada del Norte - (PE), Perú Abstract– The primary challenge faced by the textile company Textile Industry R10 E.I.R.L. is low productivity in its sewing operations, a factor that compromises its competitiveness in the market. This issue is associated with inefficient time management and work methods, highlighting the need for industrial engineering tools to enhance process efficiency. This study aimed to reduce task durations through the implementation of time study and questioning techniques, with the objective of increasing daily production output. A quantitative methodology was employed, comparing observed time data from pre-test and post-test phases and assessing tasks within the sewing operations. The results demonstrated a 22% reduction in standard time, a 7% decrease in tasks within the garment manufacturing process, and, consequently, a 21% improvement in daily production. Review of optimization techniques for scheduling school schedules Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar - (CO), Colombia, Colombia The scheduling of timetables in school environments is one of the topics of greatest interest within the educational field, which is why a review of the techniques used for the scheduling of school timetables is presented, to identify them and compare some aspects that relate to them such as the quality of the solution, the execution time, the practical applicability and its limitations. For this purpose, current practices in creating school schedules are examined, as well as the tools and strategies used to improve efficiency and effectiveness in managing resources in educational institutions at various levels. The review initially addresses common challenges associated with school scheduling, including allocating limited resources, meeting the needs and preferences of students and teachers, and optimizing the distribution of teaching and learning time. The findings highlight that these techniques are valuable tools for educational management, which requires considering the specific constraints and limitations of each academic institution, in order to use the optimization technique that best suits the design and development of their school schedules 11:40am - 11:48am
Design and implementation of Inventory Management Audit to reduce company costs TRAUMA SPINE E.I.R.L. Universidad Privada del Norte - (PE), Perú Efficient inventory management is critical in the medical supplies industry to ensure product availability and minimize economic loss. However, many micro-enterprises still rely on manual systems that create discrepancies between recorded and actual stock levels. This study found a 9.62% discrepancy in stock levels, resulting in losses of up to $6,461.85 per month. To address this problem, the study aimed to evaluate the implementation of an inventory management methodology based on industrial engineering tools to reduce discrepancies and optimize stock control. An external audit was conducted in a micro-enterprise with a team of three people responsible for inventory. By analysing current records, the main causes of discrepancies were identified and the automation of processes through a digitalized control system was proposed. Following the implementation of corrective measures, the shortage of products was progressively reduced, reaching 6.95% in January, 5.91% in February and values below the 5% standard in March, April and May. In addition, economic recovery was evident, with an initial benefit of $969.28 in December and a progressive reduction in costs throughout the year, ensuring the company's operational sustainability. These results highlight the importance of modernizing inventory systems in micro-enterprises in the health sector, as the use of technology not only optimizes inventory management but also reduces costs and improves market competitiveness. |
