Master class - CFD modeling of hydraulic structures with OpenFOAM

Session Abstract | ||
Interactive seminar introducing the use of the open-source CFD platform OpenFOAM to model hydraulic structures. With increasingly accessible computing power, modelers have been able to advance model complexity. Three-dimensional numerical models have been developed since the 1970s in aeronautical applications. During the recent decades, hydraulic engineers have benefited from the available tools. Thus, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has emerged as a cost-effective alternative to conventional physical modeling. However, there are many accuracy and modeling challenges to address yet. The master class proposed aims to introduce participants to modeling high-energy water flows discharged by hydraulic structures. While some theoretical basics on flow modeling will be provided, the session will mainly focus on practical modeling aspects. Participants will receive materials to download, allowing them to configure and run their first OpenFOAM cases. |
