CANCELLED Taking the Attitudinal Approach to the Metaphysics of Emotions without Attitudes Philipps-Universität Marburg, Germany Various philosophers claim that emotions are best understood as specific evaluative attitudes or properties thereof taken towards non-evaluative representational contents (Ben-Ze’ev 2001, 2010; Berninger 2016, 2017; Deonna and Teroni 2012, 2015, 2020; Döring 2014; Teroni 2007, 2016). I call this branch of theories the Attitudinal Approach to the Metaphysics of Emotions (henceforth also merely “attitudinal approach”. The talk discusses three of the major motivations underlying this branch of theories, explores three basic metaphysical directions in which this approach could be developed and argues that a view I call “relationalism” can best do justice to these motivations. | |
