Can we trust digital humans for emotional support, connection and guidance?

ARAZ ZIRAR, Adrian Madden

Huddersfield Business School, United Kingdom

We explored research into the use of digital humans and its implications as a source of emotional support, connection and guidance. We adopted ‘Reflexive Thematic Analysis’ to analyse 29 articles from the Scopus database. The idea that digital humans can provide emotional support, connection, and guidance presents a dilemma. Digital humans need to meet human expectations in two areas: first, human-like design, the extent to which digital humans are anthropomorphically like humans; second, human-like behaviour, the extent to which digital humans demonstrate complex behaviours. Both raise concerns about the capacity of digital humans for emotional connections and trust.

Big data analytics in Crisis Management: A review with bibliometric analysis

Xinyue Wang, Tahir abbas Syed, Nadia Papamichail

University of Manchester, United Kingdom

This paper reviews the existing literature on big data analytics (BDA) technologies application in crisis management (CM) and offers an integrated understanding of the field to ascertain its development. A systematic review of 274 journal articles through bibliometric analysis revealed publication distribution, main authors, and journals and yielded six research clusters that represent substantive BDA literature subdomains. Building on these clusters, we developed a literature framework to illustrate the conceptual relationships in, and demonstrate the importance of, BDA adoption in CM.
