Education in Mobility: Mobile Participants – Mobile Organisation(s)
Today, societies are facing fundamental transformations of mobility. On one side, geographical mobility is part of the everyday life of a growing number of people, and, on the other, the digitalisation of educational organisations is also increasing. Therefore, mobility is a major issue in the field of education and of particular interest for educational research.
While mobility becomes relevant for an increasing number of people, both for migrants as well as for transnational commuters, research questions on the conditions and courses of education developing within this context of increasing mobility have to be raised. At the same time, educational institutions and organisations have also become mobile, increasingly employing distance learning and digital learning; as well as developing international dimensions in their practices. Local dependence is no longer necessarily a precondition for education, therefore the mobility of educational organisations is another factor educational research must be sensitive to.
Two panels will focus on research questions related to both these developments and discuss the phenomenon of education in mobility from an educational science perspective.
Panel II: Educational Relations in Mobility: Agile Educational Organization [“Mobile Organisation(s)”]
Education is no longer tied to its local presence and spatial stability. Facing increasing geographical mobility of students and participants, educational institutions have become partially mobile themselves. This is evident in the growing market of virtual and distance learning in the academic field as well as in the increase of globally active international schools. These mobile educational settings benefit from the mobility of their participants as well as from the digitalisation of educational practice.
The panel will focus on the mobile settings of education in the process of current social transformations. Institutional, organisational, and disciplinary requirements related to these developments will be discussed on the basis of empirical research results and theoretical approaches.
