Session Abstract

Since 2016, we at AMS/SMT After Dark have hosted an annual comedy panel to accompany the fascinating scholarship we encounter at AMS/SMT conferences. Panelists will each deliver a 5–7-minute parodic presentation, after which the audience will hopefully woo them with the most delightful Q&A they have ever experienced. Awards will be given for categories like most esoteric, most likely to be a real conference paper in 50 years, and most self-indulgent question.

Writing this description months in advance, we can only speculate that the theme for this year’s panel may be about John Denver’s “Rocky Mountain High,” or similarly highbrow material associated with Colorado. As always, however, we will welcome papers that satirize ANY aspect of music scholarship, so long as they do not cross the line into personal offenses. (The After Dark CFP will circulate in October/November via AMS/SMT Announce lists, Twitter @AMSafterdark, and musictheoryaugmented.tumblr.com.)
