Session Abstract

Bring your burning music copyright questions to the Exhibit Hall and chat with music theorists whose work in music theory has brought them to the law. From the practical “what legal issues should I consider before using music in the classroom?” to the philosophical “why should we own music in the first place?” Dana DeVlieger and Lauren Wilson are available and excited to connect with colleagues interested in learning more about music and the law. Dana holds a PhD in music theory from the University of Minnesota and a JD from the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. She currently practices intellectual property law in New York City. Lauren is a PhD candidate in music theory at the Eastman School of Music (expected December 2023) and holds a JD from the University of Michigan Law School. She is currently a law clerk on the United States Court of Federal Claims in Washington, DC. (Please note: Dana and Lauren will not provide individual legal advice during the conference.)
