Session Abstract

The SMT Music & Philosophy Interest Group will host a session featuring keynote speaker Vivian Luong (University of Oklahoma), with short presentations by panelists Amy Bauer (UC-Irvine), Joseph Dubiel (Columbia University), and Anna Rose Nelson (University of Maryland). Representing a diverse array of approaches and questions, presentations explore foundational practices and values of music theory and analysis, their limitations, and their possibilities. The program is as follows:
