Lecture-Recital “A Puzzle in Sibelius’s Violin Concerto” Daphne Leong and Victor Avila Luvsangenden (with Edward Klorman) Group Discussion to Follow
The SMT Performance and Analysis Interest Group (PAIG) invites you to join us on Saturday evening, 7:30–9:30 pm, in Governor’s Square 15 for live music and group discussion! We will be treated to a lecture-recital by theorist-pianist Daphne Leong and violinist Victor Avila Luvsangenden (both of CU Boulder), assisted by Edward Klorman (violist, McGill University): “A Puzzle in Sibelius’s Violin Concerto.” A Q&A will follow, then a conversation of prompts submitted in advance by our members. These will explore, broadly, the network of topics raised in the lecture-recital: performance choices surrounding 1) meter, 2) notation, and 3) formal/motivic parallelism. Check the PAIG blog at smtpaig.wordpress.com before the meeting for these discussion activities, and subsequently for information about co-chair elections. Brief business meeting. Attendees need not prepare, but we do encourage you to listen—without the score, please!—to the Sibelius Concerto’s first movement. We hope to see you there! |
