Group Discussion to Follow

The SMT Performance and Analysis Interest Group (PAIG) invites you to join us on Saturday evening, 7:30–9:30 pm, in Governor’s Square 15 for live music and group discussion! We will be treated to a lecture-recital by theorist-pianist Daphne Leong and violinist Victor Avila Luvsangenden (both of CU Boulder), assisted by Edward Klorman (violist, McGill University): “A Puzzle in Sibelius’s Violin Concerto.” A Q&A will follow, then a conversation of prompts submitted in advance by our members. These will explore, broadly, the network of topics raised in the lecture-recital: performance choices surrounding 1) meter, 2) notation, and 3) formal/motivic parallelism. Check the PAIG blog at smtpaig.wordpress.com before the meeting for these discussion activities, and subsequently for information about co-chair elections. Brief business meeting. Attendees need not prepare, but we do encourage you to listen—without the score, please!—to the Sibelius Concerto’s first movement. We hope to see you there!
