Session Abstract

"Should I stay or should I go" - This question sets the stage for an exciting panel discussion on "Going Abroad During Your Academic Career". The panel brings together distinguished guests from academia, industry, and diverse cultural backgrounds to discuss the pros and cons of international experiences.

Panellists who have studied or worked abroad will share their insights and highlight the positive impact of such experiences. They will address the acquisition of language skills, the development of intercultural competence, and the expansion of global networks, and how these elements can significantly enrich academic and professional careers.

However, the discussion will also highlight the alternative perspective. What are the

hurdles of living abroad, e.g. in terms of formalities, financial aspects, but also private life? And is it a disadvantage to forego a stay abroad during one's career, or does it even have advantages?

By exploring these opposing viewpoints, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities, challenges, and personal considerations associated with living abroad during their academic careers. With this insight, they will be better able to make informed decisions that match their individual aspirations and goals.

We invite all early-career statisticians (Bachelor/Master/PhD students and Postdocs), but also more experienced statisticians to join the audience. There will be time, when questions can be asked in person and we also invite the online audience to ask questions at any time in the chat or even before the event via mail to ag-nachwuchs@googlegroups.com.
